FOUNDER BACKSTORY

Gatherband was launched in 2020 by Mark Zanghi (32) after observing how digital and divided activities had become for his three young nephews and their friends. The sense of community he recalled as a kid when trading, collecting and having that backyard currency had now been replaced by iPads, video games and solitude. After reminiscing all the classics that united his generation, he began developing Gatherband—friendship bracelets on a whole new level that are connecting thousands of kids face to face again.

Mark is a 2010 graduate from Connecticut’s Sacred Heart University School of Design and an NYC Advertising Art Director & Copywriter developing campaigns for Puma, World Wrestling Entertainment, Tropicana, J&J, Subway, Kotex, Zyrtec Kids and various others.

As a 90’s kid from Connecticut, he grew up on both sides of the digital divide: Gameboy, Nintendo and AOL were the new kids on the block while trading Friendship Bracelets, Sports Cards, Magic Cards, Pogs, Pokémon, Hacky Sacks, Yo-Yo’s, Go-Go’s and Beanie Babies were not only a way of life—but a rite of passage.

Gatherband’s mission is to connect kids face to face again and be a wearable reminder to always put friendship first.
